Scientific Publications: An author’s, reviewer’s, and editor’s perspective by Dr. Pradeep Wagle
A webinar on the topic “Scientific Publications: An author’s, reviewer’s, and editor’s perspective” sixth series was organized by the Society of Agricultural Scientists, Nepal (SAS-Nepal) on 14th July 2022 at 2:30 PM at National Animal Science Research Institute (NASRI) Hall, NARC, Khumaltar, Kathmandu. The presenter for the webinar was Dr. Pradeep Wagle, Research Agronomist, United States, Department of Agriculture (USDA). The program was administered under the chairmanship of Dr. Ram Prasad Ghimire, President of SAS-Nepal and Senior Scientist of Nepal Agricultural Research Council. The subject expert was Dr. Tek Bahadur Gurung, Former Retired Principal Scientist, NARC and the convener was Dr. Shova Shrestha, Member (Seminar and Conference), SAS-Nepal and Scientist of Nepal Agricultural Research Council. Total 58 agricultural scientist, researchers and participants from different agriculture sector attended the program.
In the beginning of the webinar, Dr. Shova Shrestha, Member (Seminar and Conference), SAS-Nepal introduced the Dr. Pradeep Wagle. Dr. Wagle commenced presentation with basic manuscript writing tips. He suggested, while writing, consistent with the thought process and no complicated jargon. Besides, he acquainted with how to avoid plagiarism, how to select quality journal by considering impact factor and shared a link to verify predatory journals. He described each manuscript components (Title, Key points, Key words, Abstract, Introduction, Materials Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusion, Reference, Tables and Figures) for best scientific publication and discussed how to write good review article. Dr. Tek Bahadur Gurung was very much pleased with the informative scientific presentation. He made queries regarding the standard of scientific journal of Nepal. Besides, he persuaded scientist and technicians to be focused on quality scientific paper and discouraged plagiarism.
Succeeding, interaction session was held in which participant shows the active participation and raised the question regarding said topic and the presenter well addressed the participant’s queries. The webinar was interactive and informative for concerned participants.
The webinar was ended by vote of thanks, token of love was given to presenter and invited speaker by President of SAS-Nepal and group photo was taken with the presenter.
