A webinar on the topic “Manipulating plant geometry to improve grain yield under limited water supply” fifth series was organized by the "Society of Agricultural Scientists, Nepal (SAS-Nepal) on 17th June 2022 at 2:00 PM at National Plant Pathology Research Centre (NPPRC) Hall, Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC), Khumaltar, and Kathmandu. The presenter for the webinar was Dr. Sushil Thapa, Assistant Professor of Agronomy from the University of Central Missouri, USA. The program was administered under the chairmanship of Dr. Ram Prasad Ghimire, President of SAS-Nepal and Senior Scientist of Nepal Agricultural Research Council. The subject experts were Dr. Ananda Kumar Gautam, Retired Principal Scientist, NARC and Dr. Yam Kanta Gahire, Soil Scientist, Asia International Fertilizer Development Centre and the moderator and coordinator of the programme was Dr. Shova Shrestha, Member (Seminar and Conference), SAS-Nepal and Scientist of NARC.
In the beginning of the webinar, Dr. Ram Prasad Ghimire, President of SAS-Nepal highlighted about the vision and objectives of SAS-Nepal stating that SAS-Nepal is a professional organization that serves as a common forum for the agricultural scientist and researchers scattered throughout Nepal and abroad in various agricultural and related institutions and field to contribute to a common goal of the country’s economic development through the growth of agricultural sector.
Subsequently, Dr. Sushil Thapa, Assistant Professor of Agronomy from the University of Central Missouri, USA presented on topic addressing how we can increase grain yield under limited water supply in dry land condition. He clearly presented his findings within the allocated time.
The subject experts Dr. Ananda Kumar Gautam and Dr. Yam Gahire were very much pleased with the presenter findings of the research. They made queries regarding how you can relate dry land research to Nepalese conditions. Besides, they explained the land status and suitability of agriculture commodity in Nepal and made further suggestions that we need to increase the productivity of agriculture in the context of Nepal.
Later, questions and interaction session was held in which participant shows the active participation and raised the question regarding said topic and the presenter well addressed the participant’s queries. The webinar was interactive and informative for concerned participants. The program was carried out on hybrid model and total 65 participants including virtual participants from different agriculture sector attended the program. Participants were attended from NARC research Centres, NARC planning division, Chief of the National Agronomy Research Centre (NAgRC), NPPRC and Senior Scientists, Scientists, and Technical officers, Retires Principle Scientists from NARC; Executive committee members from SAS-Nepal, and students from Himalayan collage of Agriculture Science and Technology (HICAST).
The webinar was ended by vote of thanks and token of love given to presenter and invited speaker by President of SAS-Nepal.
